LA GARD 700 Series Firmware – Safelock Systems Knowledgebase

The LA GARD 700 Series has updatable firmware which allows for bugs fixes, new features and performance improvements.

Inevitably, this can change how the lock operates. As such different user instructions might apply depending on the firmware versions of the lock that is installed. Safelock Systems will only ever publish instructions for the most recent firmware release on lock pages. This page exists to provide operating instructions from previous firmware versions.

How to ascertain the firmware version

With the LA GARD 700 Series software kit, the firmware version can be viewed using the Compare function in the software. Firmware versions can also be ascertained as below:

Display keypads

Shortcut: Command menu >System >Sys Info>Keypad (Previously named Entry) and Command menu >System >Sys Info>Lock

Press Arrow Down
Enter any valid ID and code
If there are multiple menu items, Press Arrow Down to scroll so that System is highlighted white, Press Enter
Sys info is highlighted white, press Enter
Depending on the firmware version, Keypad or Entry, is highlighted white, press Enter
The display shows Battery status, press Arrow Down and the keypad firmware version will display
Press # to return to the previous menu and scroll so that Lock is highlighted white, press Enter and the lock firmware version will display.

Non-display keypads

Firmware version can be tested by attempting to use new commands that are added in each firmware release.

Enter #18 (The command to turn Open 2 change on or off)
- If the green LED stays illuminated, the firmware versions are Keypad 1.4.0.0 and Lock 1.4.0.2. The firmware was released in August 2024, and became available from January 2025)
- If the keypad signals 3 red flashes + low beeps, the firmware version precedes Keypad 1.4.0.0 and Lock 1.4.0.2. Continue the steps below.
Enter #17 (The command to turn forced code changes on or off)
- If the green LED stays illuminated, the firmware versions are Keypad 1.2.3.4, Lock 1.2.2.3. This firmware set was released in October 2022.
- If the keypad signals 3 red flashes + low beeps, the firmware versions precedes Keypad 1.2.3.4 and Lock 1.2.2.3. There are no major operating differences between all previous releases.
