Firmware versions: Keypad 1.4.0.0, Lock 1.4.0.2
During 2024 dormakaba released several new firmware updates for the LA GARD 700 series. The cumulation of these releases will start to become available over the coming months, and provides for additional features that have been requested globally.
The update is optional
It is not necessary to update existing locks, it is optional depending on whether end users desire the changes that the update offers, which are outlined below.
Firmware can be updated using 700 series software (A license is not required) and the Software kit for LA GARD 700 Series available to purchase from our online store.

Safelock Systems Ltd. will undertake free of charge firmware updates to any uninstalled lock sets that are returned and collected at the customer’s expense.
The latest software and firmware can be downloaded from our knowledgebase: LA GARD 700 Series software
Please note that updating firmware also requires that the device's bootloader is updated. The bootloader file is supplied in the software download package with the firmware files.
Feature: Open 2 Change
This feature requires that the bolt must be in the open position for access to the command menu, including for users to access the change combo menu item.
To enable Open 2 change, the bolt must be in the open position, and either the Master or Manager code is required. The default condition is that it is switched off. Open 2 change requires that the lock is fitted with a bolt switch, which is the case for all locks supplied by Safelock Systems Limited.
Where a deadbolt is installed, and the keypad is used to drive the deadbolt, Open 2 change is not advisable, as the keypad must be rotated to open the lock, and so any menu commands, including changing codes, must be performed with the keypad on its side.
Feature: Dual Mode changes
An additional option has been enabled, and the previous listed options have been redefined per the table below

Feature: Master deletion
The Master code can be used to delete itself. There must be at least 1 Manager or User installed with ‘open lock’ privilege if in single mode. If in dual mode, there must be a minimum number of Manager(s) and users as defined by the dual mode setting.
Locks will continue to be supplied by Safelock Systems with the Master code installed, and owners are advised to consider that certain functions on the lock can only be carried out using the Master code. The Master code can only be reinstated by physically resetting the lock with a reset box.
Functions that only the Master can access:
- Set time and date format
- Manage the Manager
- Change time delay and open window counting mode
- Change combination length, turn forced code changes on or off
- Change from single mode to dual mode
- Manage alarm signals
- Install additional locks (703 and above)
- Enable time delay override
- Reset the lock (Without a reset box)
Instructions and support
User Operating Instructions
Locks will be issued with updated instructions to reflect the new features. New instructions will also be available to download from our website on the relevant lock page. Instructions for older firmware versions will be archived and available to download:
Backwards compatibility
It is possible to use a newer firmware lock with a keypad and vice versa, all versions are compatible. If however software is used to change settings, the lock and keypad must be on the same dated release, and so it may be necessary to use the software to update either component. It is possible to use the compare and audit functions without needing to update the firmware.
